About the Organization
The Jonathan Law Band is actually broken down into three distinct groups. There is the Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Concert Band. If the kids are not actively playing with all three groups, many remain involved with all aspects of the band anyway. Band activities keep the kids busy from August to May. The kids become very involved; they learn discipline and direction. More importantly, they build lasting relationships that extend far beyond high school.
Jazz Band begins immediately following marching season and coincides with the Winter Guard season. The jazz band is broken into 'Jazz Band A' and 'Jazz Band B'. These talented groups also participate in performance competitions and had a successful year, as well. The also performed at a reception for the accreditation team for JLHS this past year.
The Jonathan Law Guards are also broken down in two groups. The Color Guard performs with the Marching Band under the direction of the Band director and the instruction of a highly qualified and dedicated, volunteer Guard instructor. Our current Guard instructor has inspired in the girls a real confidence in themselves and in their abilities to achieve whatever they seek to achieve. She has also managed to take a random group of kids and turn them into a hard working, loyal group, dedicated to doing the very best they can and pushing even harder to achieve excellence. The same holds true with the Winter Guard, the second Guard group. This group begins when Marching season ends. Many of the kids, who participate with Marching Band, but not with Jazz Band, join the Winter Guard. For the past 2 seasons, the Winter Guard had the maximum 30 members. They had the distinct honor of winning Winter Guard Championships for two straight seasons. This past season the Guard moved up the equivalent of 2 classes into the highly competitive Scholastic A, where they took an impressive 4th place!
